This month is full of celebrations of spring and rebirth, from St. Patrick’s Day to Easter. That’s right—spring is in the air! That means it’s the right time to eat fresh!

What do I mean by eating fresh? Now that spring has sprung, that means fresh produce at the farmer’s market. Transportation and globalization have made it easy to eat whatever we want whenever we want, but everything always tastes better when it’s in season.

So what’s in season this month?

  1. Grapefruit: In season, delicious, and good for you! Grapefruit boosts vitamin C, especially in winter, which is good for your immune system and energy levels.

  2. Asparagus: Perfect for grilling, whether you like the green or the milder white variety. Get on it now because it’s in peak season!

  3. Radishes: With a slightly spicy flavor, these make a great snack on their own, or you can sauté, braise, glaze, or pickle them—plenty of options!

  4. Cara Cara Oranges: These are grown in California, available December through April. They have a sweet, tangy flavor like strawberries and cranberries, and they are conveniently seedless!

  5. Bok Choy: This Chinese cabbage is a winter veggie, with a slightly sweeter flavor than other cabbage varieties… just right for spring!

There’s plenty more in season this month, so you’ve got lots of opportunity to create fresh meals that are both delicious and good for you! Good thing too, because March is National Nutrition Month, so let’s make our meals fresh and fabulous! What are you planning for your amazing in-season Easter meal this week?
