Secret Uses for Lemons
28 Jul, 15
Fresh-squeezed lemonade is the most refreshing drink on a hot day. Not only is lemonade delicious, but it could be doing good things for you! Did you know that lemons help to hydrate you and keep your body in balance? Lemons have a number of surprising uses. Here are some other things you probably didn’t know you could do with lemons:
Cure Insomnia
Do you lie awake in bed worrying about all the work you have on your plate? If so, you’re not alone! Roughly 60 million Americans suffer from insomnia, and one of the biggest contributing factors is anxiety. But studies have shown that lemons, especially when combined with herbs like chamomile, can help you get to sleep and make you feel more calm.
Detoxify Your Liver
We’ve all had that glass of wine that turned into two, then three… and the next thing you know, you wake up the next morning wishing you’d never heard of alcohol. While lemons are not a hangover cure, they can act as a liver detoxifier by dissolving acids. Add some lemon juice to your morning water and your liver will thank you!
Ease Your Pain
Do you find yourself reaching for the aspirin a little too often? You may feel better if you drink lemon juice or rub lemon oil on the area that hurts. Lemon juice can reduce acid and improve rheumatism, and lemon oil has pain-relieving qualities that can reduce inflammation if applied.
Repel Insects
If you’ve been sitting outside in the evening, you know July is mosquito season! Grab the bug spray and you’ll be smelling like summer camp—in all the wrong ways. Instead, add some lemon oil to water and spray that around you instead. Not only will it keep bugs away, but it smells wonderful!
If you have some spare lemons from your trip to the farmer’s market, give one of these tips a try!
