Administrative Professionals Day is on April 24th. It takes place in the middle of Administrative Professionals Week, and recognizes the hard work of receptionists, assistants, and secretaries. How will you thank the administrative professionals in your life?

The U.S. workforce includes almost 4 million administrative assistants/secretaries. These professionals are often the glue that holds companies together. They are organized, dependable, knowledgeable, and friendly—many businesses would be unable to function without them.

Originally, Administrative Professionals Day was known as National Secretary’s Day. It was created in 1952 by Harry F. Klemfuss, who wanted to recognize the importance of secretarial positions. The holiday was also developed to encourage people to become secretaries. In 2000, the name was officially changed in order to acknowledge that administrative roles have expanded significantly.

The traditional way to celebrate this national holiday was to take secretaries out for lunch—in fact, the week-long observance was established so that bookings at restaurants could be spaced out. Or, administrative professionals were given flowers and cards. Looking for something that’s a little more motivating for your receptionist?
