What Do You Do When You Get a Bad Gift?
19 Dec, 17
You’ve undoubtedly been in a situation where you have had to tell a friend or a family member that you don’t like their gift. With Christmas only a couple of days away you will be front and center with friends and family opening presents, but what’s the best way to break it to them?
We hope this goes without saying, but be nice about telling someone you don’t like their gift. They’ve put an effort in to finding something they thought you would like. Don’t get pouty or act like a spoiled brat, this will make your situation worse.
Odds are it’s an out of town relative or distant cousin that doesn’t know you well and thought your wardrobe could use a pair of bright pink flamingo slippers. If they’re kind enough they’ve included a gift receipt, but if not, you have two options. Tuck that new pair of slippers into your closet and then move, or pick up the phone and give them a call. Little white lies can be very helpful here, “Sorry Aunt Josephine, I actually already have a pair of bright pink flamingo slippers, but I appreciate the gesture.”
Just make sure to slip in that next year you want a Lucia & Co gift box.
