Happy New Year! I can’t believe this last year went by so fast that we’ve already rolled into a new one. Time flies! Are you making any resolutions? Is there anything you want to change about yourself, your diet, habits, business, relationships? For several years now, I have not made resolutions. I make goals throughout the year and that seems to keep me busy enough. J  What I have embarked on is a new journey with food. There have been a lot of changes I have made, and been happy to make that I will be sharing with you. I have learned a lot and am very excited to share new knowledge with you. I hope you find this helpful. First stop:  MSG.      I know we all know of it and have heard of it, but do you know where it exists? Food manufacturers have gotten smarter and smarter over the years and with pressure for more honest labeling/concerned consumers, have re-labeled this most infamous ingredient. It pops up in so many foods, in so many ingredient lists, in so many different ways, it would take me ten pages to uncover it all for you. Take a look in your cabinet. How many of you use condiments…BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, soy sauce? Did you know that all of these mentioned sauces and condiments contain MSG? MSG, monosodium glutamate also shows up under the ingredient description:  natural flavoring, spices, and hydrolyzed protein to name a few. Take a look in your cabinet or refrigerator and see what you find. Another clue that what you have in your hand contains MSG, is the sodium content. If the portion size in the nutrition label is say, 2 TBS, and in those 2TBS you have 200 mg or more of sodium, it most likely contains MSG unless of course, what you have in your hand is a salt block! Just think of how that would taste if it was only salt that was used to season.  Yes, even the organic ketchups have it. Check it out and we’ll talk some more…
