#2 The Element of Surprise We’ve looked at how creating a memory can begin to build a solid connection that communicates to the recipient that you think they are important. Exploring a little more into the idea of what makes someone feel like a VIP, I thought about how the element of surprise in gift giving creates an even stronger memory and positive feelings for the person receiving the gift. Everyone knows they will most likely be receiving something or other around the holidays…but sending someone a gift “just because” – that shows thoughtfulness and is a stronger symbol of appreciation. What better way to make someone feel like a VIP than to surprise them during off-peak times with a treat you know they will love and not expect? It is in the moments of life that bring a nice surprise and a break from the ordinary that bring enjoyment. We remember surprises because they simply make us feel important and we don’t have any doubt that the person who gave us that gift thought about us and chose to send us something great.
