Whdogile we’re giving treats this Halloween, let’s not forget about out furry friends! Chocolate is toxic to dogs,  so be sure to keep all trick-or-treat candy out of their reach. And make sure your cat doesn’t get into the  fake spiderwebs—this can cause serious internal blockages. Pets deserve to have a happy Halloween too,  and ensuring their safety will make it a good day for everyone.   The week after Halloween, November 2-8, is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. On this week,  we give special attention to those abandoned animals in need of a home. There are a few things you can do  to participate and show these animals some much-needed love!
  1. Adopt a pet!
If you’re looking for a new pet, avoid breeders and puppy mills. Save a life by adopting from a shelter!
  1. Show gratitude to shelter workers.
People who work at shelters do it because they love animals. Show your thanks for their dedication with a card—or, if you adopted your pet from them, let them know how happy your pet is in his new home!
  1. Donate.
Donating to your local shelter doesn’t have to mean money. Shelters are always in need of toys, towels, and other supplies. You can even make toys at home using recyclable materials like yarn!
  1. Volunteer.
It might surprise you how many shelters and rescue groups in your area are out there helping homeless animals. Groups like these always need more help due to overpopulation of shelters and understaffing. If you can’t adopt a pet, then volunteering to walk dogs, play with cats, feed animals, and keep their areas clean can be extremely rewarding!   Celebrate Halloween by giving your pets an extra treat, and celebrate everything that shelters do by helping out those animals in need. A pet’s gratitude can be the sweetest treat of all!
