In 1940, York, South Carolina businessman Henry C. Kessler had a plan. He decided to perfect an already existing goody that covered a refreshing, mint filling with luscious dark chocolate. By making the middle firm and crisp rather than soft and mushy, he created uniquely delicious goodness. Because of his new yummy treat, the York Cone Company became so popular that he did away with ice cream cones altogether! Through these humble beginnings, what we know today as the York Peppermint Patty was born. While only select states could enjoy these sweet treats up until 1975, now the York Peppermint Patty, and its close contenders, can be found all over the world.
