The short answer here is yes, but it comes with a mighty asterisk.

The tricky part to gifting wine is your recipient. Is the wine a holiday gift for your boss, congratulations to a fellow co-worker on getting that promotion, or is it a thank you gift to a client?

Each one of the scenarios calls for a different approach, here’s a good rule of thumb.

For Your Boss

Never give something obviously cheap or generic, this says volumes.

If you’re not sure ask around the office to see what your boss likes or try to remember what they were drinking at the last Christmas party. If you’re stuck, ask the clerk at the store for a recommendation and consider pairing it with a Baby Brie gift box.

For Your Co-Worker

More than likely you and your co-workers have gone out for drinks or discussed your favorite bottle of wine. Treat them like an equal, if your co-workers know you enjoy wine, gift them one of your favourites to try.

For Your Client

No need to break the bank, but there’s no reason to cheap out either. If you’re going in blind to preference stick to something white. Red is generally preferred by Americans in recent studies. However, red drinkers will generally drink a white, but (generally) not the other way around.
