With today being National Eggnog Day, and December being National Eggnog Month, what better time to observe a pleasantly pleasing eggnog recipe? This deliciously thick and creamy holiday staple is easy to create. Ingredients:  6 large egg yolks  ½ cup granulated sugar  1 cup heavy whipping cream  2 cups milk  ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg  Pinch of salt  ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract  Ground cinnamon (topping)  Alcohol (optional): your favorite brand of rum, brandy, bourbon, or whiskey Instructions: 1. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar. 2. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the cream, milk, ground nutmeg and salt. Stir and simmer. 3. Add a big spoonful of the hot milk to the egg mixture. Whisk. Repeat process to temper eggs.  4. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan on the stove.  5. Whisk until mixture is slightly thickened. 6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla (and alcohol). 7. Pour the eggnog into pitcher or container. Cover.  8. Refrigerate. 9. Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and fresh whipped cream, if desired.
