Today we celebrate small cakes baked in cups that have been popular since they were first introduced to the American public during the late 18th century. If you haven’t guessed it yet, today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day.

There were two mentions on how these cups of heaven got the name “cupcakes”. The cupcakes were often baked in individual heavy pottery cups, ramekins, or molds. So, it’s thought they may have gotten this name from the cups they were baked in. The second one is that the name comes from the recipe, which was measured out by the cup. i.e., one cup butter, two cups of sugar, three cups of flour, four eggs, one cup of milk, one spoonful of baking soda. The use of this name has remained ever since. The name “cupcake” now refers to any small cake that is about the size of a teacup.

Who wouldn’t love a small cake that’s easy to transport, easy to serve and provides a single serving of cake. If you’re looking to celebrate this holiday you merely have to buy some chocolate cupcakes to pass out to friends and family or make your own cupcakes from scratch. Chocolate cupcakes are great for office parties, client appreciation, for an extra school lunch treat or for after-dinner dessert, so there’s plenty of opportunities for this cup of cheer to make its rounds to everyone you hold dear.

How about a hot drink to compliment those decadent chocolate cupcakes? Tea or Coffee? We have just the thing for you!
